Year Two - First four months

Yes, Amelia, the first third of Year 2 has flown by!

Around 14 months, you learned to walk on marble floors in Florida. Your vocabulary is through the roof (see below)! You can say about 3/4 of your word list on your own, but imitate and understand the rest of the words. You can answer questions with "yeah" and "no." The other day, you screamed "eyes" when the sun was too bright. You constantly demand "hattie" which means "give it to me" in Arabic.

You've enjoyed a few new foods, but still love banana, cheese, chicken, waffles, apples, puffs, cheerios, lentils and now hummus, broccoli, string beans, strawberries, blueberries, (fistfuls of) cottage cheese, veggie straws, pretzels and pancakes. You're fond of playing "Where's Amelia?" or peekaboo. You regularly ask for Ernie or Elmo (TV or songs). You are prone to spirited random feet stomping and dancing wildly around the living room with a huge grin on your face.

You combine words to say "Hi Mama," "Hi Dada," and "Hi Java" and "Bye Mom," "Bye Dad" and "Bye Java." You still do baby signs for milk, please, all done, thirsty, hear and love you - and we're working on elephant. On the changing table, you are a huge "helper" putting your "arms" in your shirts and taking off your socks. You're intrigued by shoes and are starting to appreciate stuffed animals. You'll now read books for longer than two pages at a time. Mommy's hair is very fun to brush. Cabinets and drawers are fun to empty (when we forget to lock them). When I eat something hot and blow on it, you think it's funny to imitate with your food. Any pen is "aqua doodle." You love listening to birds in the morning and in the evenings when we're out on our nightly walks. And we've started to work on alphabet flashcards (we usually get through about 8 at a time). Bubbles in the tub and brushing your teeth (all 10 of them, including two molars!) are pretty exciting to you. Also, you can go up the stairs! And you get very excited when it's swing time. And pretty much all of the above is exciting TO US!

We have so much fun playing with you and watching you play independently. You are cuddly, sweet, cautious and curious. (So, so curious.) Now that the weather is warmer, much more outdoor fun is coming your way - road trips, weddings, the beach, family visits and who knows what other surprises are in store... LOVE YOU SO BIG GIRL!

12 months - ONE YEAR!

Yes, Amelia, you are ONE YEAR - aka twelve months old today! Lately, all you want to do is stand. You're an awesome cruiser and scooter. And you can pull yourself up on the couch and play table. You love to dance to music, twisting your hands and waving your arms in a Bollywood-like fashion. You've gestured to Java to come to you. You're working on the "please" baby sign. You've found your nose, ears, head, hair, tummy, hands and feet (and ours, too). You love, love, love to talk (see the long list of all your words and noises so far below) - especially "apple," "all done," "nose" and of course, Mama, Dada and Java. You enjoy dumping out your toy and book baskets, reading a few pages of a book before throwing it behind you and especially are having fun with your lunchbox toy, play table, new blocks, sushi set, gumball machine, farm puzzle, farm noise book, drum, Noah's Ark and cups/bowls of any variety. Sometimes you like to feed me instead of eating yourself. You look up to us for permission/acknowledgement when touching/experiencing something new. You recently mastered the straw sippy cup, which is great because soon you'll be drinking exclusively out of them - and you'll get to start drinking milk - MOO! Also ahead, an amazing first birthday party with family (pictures to come - many of them!) and a visit to Florida. Who knows what else to expect!

In this past year, we've watched you grow from a squishy infant into a super squishy toddler. A TODDLER - WHAT?!? We love playing with you, laughing with you (lots more laughs lately - they're the best!), feeding you, spending time with you, cuddling with you, soothing you, road trips with you, family time with you and just watching you explore the big world around you - from rolling over to sitting up to scooting to standing, and SOON walking.

We are so, so, so excited to watch you grow, learn and change... We hope you know how awesome Year 2 will be! WE LOVE YOU SO.

Yes, Amelia, you are ELEVEN months old today! Just one month away from your first birthday - HOLY COW! You are officially mobile, but in your own scooting, half crawling kind of way. You love standing with your table toy and walking while we hold your hands or using your walker. I mean, WOAH! You also love to tell us where your nose is, and find your own. Same goes for your hair. You find Daddy's ears fascinating. And you think it's hilarious when Daddy says "Vroom." You love your orchestra box toy, new toys in general (puzzles!)... just wait til the holidays and your birthday (we've got some great goodies in store for you) and eating cheese, meat and carbs (we have to work on veggies and fruits), plus making so many amazing new silly noises. Going to work makes me sad to miss additional special moments, but the time we do get to spend with you makes your special moments even more special... LOVE YOU SO.

Changes:
  • Um, HELLO... ASSISTED WALKING?!?!? You are blowing our minds!
  • Figuring out toys - puzzles, gumball machine, activity table
